There was standing room only at Mount Gilead High School (MGHS) Fine Arts Festival last Wednesday when more than 200 High School and Middle School students participated in the art show, band and choir concert.

Students with their friends and family came out to participate in several musical productions and view exhibits of student art work.

Sherry Seckel, whose grand children were participants, commented that it was great to see the variety and great quality of art work. The art exhibit pieces ranged from scratch art and family crests to watercolor and sculpture.

MGHS art teacher, Jesse Thompson was pleased to see the great turnout for the art exhibit when it was combined with the band and music concert.

It’s been a tradition to have a separate art show and music festival. Combining the two especially helped bring more people out to see the art exhibits.

Poetry readings were given by Kelly Baer, Cheyenne Fleming and Keila Simmons. Featured performers were Jay Stratton, Mallory Cooper, Danielle Harter, Allena McLaughlin, Joslin McDonald, Casey White, Monika Hudson, Heather Emberg and Kelly Baer.

Middle School Principal Art Award went to Virginia Schelb and Superintendent’s Middle School Award was given to Makenzie Strahm.

Principal’s Art awards went to: Jonah Barnett, Addison Chapman, Michaela Martin, Casey White, Rachelle Evans, Sarah-Faith Bean, Cheyenne Fleming, Kendra Ditmars, Hailey Dean and Yanexi Rubio. Superintendent’s Awards were given to: Sarah-Faith Bean, Jillian Taylor and Cheyenne Fleming.

Community Art Purchase Awards were given to Alexis Clark, Cameron Fricke, Zack Hosack, Kora James, Hailey Dean, Whitney Levings, Morgan Murphy, Katie Seckel, Makaylee Wyatt, Noah Arrington and Jay Stratton.

It was a full evening for the music department with such favorite numbers as “Ticket to Ride,” and “The Impossible Dream” by the High School Choir followed by a touching “All of Me” and “Eye of the Tiger” by the Show Choir. The Jazz Band pulled out all the stops with “Moanin’” and “Cold Duck Time.” The High School Band concluded the evening with “Rough Riders,” “Timepiece,” and “The Rescue.”
