Cardington Village Council gave a first reading to an ordinance accepting a quote from Caterpillar, Inc. for the purchase of a Model 430 backhoe when they met in regular session May 2.
Council learned that Shelly and Sands have contracted with the State of Ohio to resurface US Route 42 through Cardington sometime around the first of June.
The company will also be do the village paving project at the same time, although Village Administrator Danny Wood said they have not had a pre-construction meeting with them for that project at this time.
He also reported the painting of the water tower, when it begins sometime in May, will continue all month.The tower will be out of service during that time and pressure will be maintained by the high service pumps at the water treatment plant with the use of a pressure control valve.
Police Chief James Wallace said he had spoken with Brian Petrie, Cardington-Lincoln School superintendent, and they would schedule a monthly meeting to discuss any issues the school or the department would have.
Applicants for the position of full time and part time police officer and a water water operator will be interviewed following the deadline of May 10 for applicants.
Sponsorship of a Golf Team was approved for participation in the Morrow County Chamber’s annual Golf Outing. Cost is $350 and team members will be Police Chief Wallace, council member Jim Morris; business owner Greg Gompf and Mike Fry, MCF Technologies, contractor for the village.
A first reading was given an ordinance which amends the Permanent Appropriation for the village for Fiscal Year ending December 31, 2016. Deb Fry, Fiscal Manager, explained the increases that required the amendment.
During the semi-annual joint meeting with the Glendale Union Cemetery Board and the Cardington Township Trustees, the three entities approved the re- appointment of Councilman Jim Morris to the Glendale Union Cemetery Board where he serves as the village representative.
Addressing council was John Harsch, Morrow County Emergency Management Director. He explained he has applied for a FEMA grant that will update the county’s all hazard mitigation plan. He said there is a statement of interest from the village of Cardington with no charge to the village and went on to explain the plan more clearly.
Mayor Susie Peyton said the village will plant a tree near the municipal building in observance of Arbor Day The tree will be dedicated to Richard Hack, who has served the village with his horticultural expertise by planting flowers in the barrels and beds for almost 40 years.
He retired earlier this year. This information will be shared with Tree City USA, a title the village has had for 32 years.
