Mount Gilead Middle School art students from Anne Trautman’s art class painted a rain barrel for the Caledonia ECO Center’s Earth Day Raffle last week.

Trautman said the students “had fun painting the rain barrel after school.”

The rain barrel will be used to collect rain from the roof. The collected rainwater can be used for watering plants and other uses that don’t require completely pure water.

The barrel was painted with a large dandelion and the words, “Some see weeds.”

Several other schools in the area participated in the project.

The Eco Center had celebrated ‘Earth Day’ last Saturday with lots of sunshine. The ECO Center hosted classes on mammals, raptors, spiders and pollinators.

Morrow County Schools presented a “Recycled Art Show” and there was a 5K walk/run eventin the morning.

Families attending the event also enjoyed: Mini Zip Lines, an interpretive trail, archery booth , kids crafts and a petting zoo.

Earth Day was co-hosted by Morrow and Marion County Recycling and Litter Prevention.
