Fulton Village Council met last week for its only meeting of the month and appointed its president, Steve Fissell as acting mayor in the absence of Mayor Teri Hickman.

A letter from Mayor Hickman stated she would be away for an unspecified time on a family emergency. Council agreed to suspend the mayor’s salary and provide that salary to the acting mayor during the interim.

Members also approved legislation that clarified the salaries of the mayor, council members, the fiscal officer, sewer billing clerk and the zoning inspector.

Also approved was legislation which allows the village to hire special duty officers to provide law enforcement for the village from the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office at a rate of $21 an hour for ten hours a month.

Estimates for improvements to the laterals at the Lutheran Memorial Camp were obtained and will be presented to the camp’s director for his consideration.

Members discussed the condition of the village streets with the possibility of placing a street levy on the November ballot to receive the funds needed to cover the expense of repairing the deteriorating streets.

Council approved legislation which made Page Street and Center Streets one way heading south from Main Street. A new blinker sign will be placed at the intersection of Main Street and State Route 61. Residents and motorists are also reminded there are no designated public parking spaces on Page and Center Streets. Persons found parking on these streets will be reported to the Morrow County Sheriff’s office.

Council was updated on the Main Street culvert project. Council members were reminded that bids for the project were opened at the municipal building on April 8. Council will hold a special meeting on April 18 at 7 p.m. in the municipal building, 212 West Street, to review the approved the bids for this project.

A reminder to residents and non residents: the DKMM recycling bin was moved from the corner of Main and Center Streets to Woodbine Street alongside the municipal building.
