Director, Clare Cooke announces she will hold auditions for the Palace Theatre’s summer production “Crazy For You” on Sunday, May 15 and Sunday, May 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Winner of three 1992 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, this high energy romantic comedy with show-stopping musical numbers add up to irresistible fun. Set in the 1940’s, New York City banker and aspiring dancer Bobby Child is sent to Deadrock, Nevada, to foreclose on a theater. Instead, he falls in love with the owner’s daughter, Polly, and puts on a show in their failing theater to pay the mortgage and win her heart. This hilarious tale of boy meets girl in the Wild West is packed with non-stop Gershwin hit songs. The show explodes with spectacular production numbers including “Slap That Bass,” “I Can’t Be Bothered Now,” “I Got Rhythm,” and memorable ballads “Someone To Watch Over Me,” “But Not For Me,” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.”
Cooke is looking for adults and children ages 10 and up to fill various ensemble and featured roles in the production. Children cast in this show will have the opportunity to “shadow” those who work behind the scenes. Participants ages 15 years and older should report from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Children ages 10-14 will perform in groups and should report from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All participants may audition either day and should enter through the front theatre doors. Those interested in participating in the chorus will audition in groups. Adults wishing to audition for principle roles are asked to come prepared to sing a solo.
Auditioners are requested to select a one-minute Broadway-style audition tune. A pianist will be provided. No CDs please. All auditioners should come dressed in casual clothing and shoes appropriate for performing choreography. Adults skilled in tap dance may bring tap shoes. Performance dates for “Crazy For You” are July 9, 10 and July 15, 16, 17. Ticket prices are $40 Patrons, $22, $18 Adults, and $12 Children 12 and under. Patrons purchasing a $40 ticket will enjoy premium seating during the show and an invitation to the patron party on opening night. Tickets go on sale to $40 PATRONS on Monday, May 23. Regular priced ticket sales begin Tuesday, May 31.
