Developmental Disabilities (DD) advocate, Brandon White spoke to the Morrow County Commissioners with enthusiasm about the DD activities he is involved with throughout the state of Ohio.
He is on the State Board for DD and is involved with Project STIR (Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility.) He’s been appointed by Ohio Governor John Kasich to the Committee for Government to project the next 5-10 years for DD in the state.
Adult Services Manager, Cindy Leitzy commented that the Morrow County DD advocates are well known throughout the state. She said people speak of them very highly and “they represent Morrow County in
a very good way.”
Community Integration and Advocacy Director added that White travels all around the state for various
functions and committees. They are going to several counties to educate PSEO students on Developmental Disabilities.
They have also started a Book Club that meets at Sames and Cook on Fridays for those on different reading levels. One
of their latest projects is an Awareness Group for Autism, Downs Syndrome and Asperger Disease.
Others who spoke for self-advocacy include: Penny Cranston, Mellissa Dickison, Dan Banks and Chad Wogan. They
were very excited to tell about their activities in People First, Special Olympics and STIR projects.
Commissioner Dennis Leader thanked the group for their hard work and good representation for the county.
