Mount Gilead Middle School students climbed aboard buses last Friday to enjoy their “Spring reward day” at the Columbus Zoo.

Trip organizer, Heather Nicholson said the day was part of the school’s reward program. Other reward activities are a trip to Snow Trails for sledding and Cedar Point at year’s end.

Each student begins the term with points and if they have enough points at the end of the term they are rewarded with a special day trip or activity. Points are taken away for behavior, grades or attendance.

Eighth grader, Makayla Weaver commented that it was a really fun day. She and her friends were planning to see all the zoo exhibits.

Students were able to visit all the exhibits in groups of four or five and be on their own without teachers for the day. They met up only at noon and at the end of the day to get on their bus for the ride back to school.
