The Morrow County Chamber of Commerce honored Hannah Swanson, a senior at Gilead Christian School, as February’s Student of the Month.

Chamber Director, Cathy Francis noted that she is accomplished in many areas. Her parents Anjie and Tom Swanson attended the Chamber Luncheon with Hannah.

Swanson’s Principal, Gary Miller said that she is well known as one of the only girls around who plays on the boys’ basketball team.

She commented that she played on the boys basketball team because there weren’t enough girls to have a girls team.

Swanson played on the team for two season and earned a varsity letter each of those years.

The Gilead Christian senior has been a member of National Honor Society for three years, as well as a member of student council.

She has also served as class treasurer, secretary and currently as senior class president.

Swanson has played volleyball every year at Gilead Christian and has lettered each of those years.

Hannah is employed by Heartland Conference Retreat Center in their housekeeping department and is a lifeguard in summer months.

Service to the community has been an important part of Hannah’s life. She has helped at the local food pantry and Hoops for Him at Gilead Friends Church.

After graduation Hannah plans to attend The Ohio State University at Marion and earn a degree in Early Childhood Education. She plans a career as a Kindergarten teacher. Principal Miller said, “She wants the work that she completes to reflect strong effort, intellectual integrity and spiritual honesty.”
