Morrow County Democrat and Republican women’s groups put differences aside and joined with the Morrow County Business and Professional Women’s group to co-sponsor a candidates’ night held earlier this month.

Democrat Patty Ray commented that it is good for people to see both parties represented and having civil discussion, even when the majority of the candidates happen to be Republican this year.

Republican Dixie Shinaberry was pleased with the turnout of 70 who attended and hopes the three women’s groups can continue to cooperate on a candidate night in the future. She added that they are already looking forward to planning a candidates and issue night before the November election this fall.

There were 20 candidates at the program who presented their ideas and qualifications and answered questions. Six hotly contested races are up for the March primary in Morrow County. Both Commissioner seats are contested as well as the Prosecutor, Clerk of Courts, Sheriff and State Representative for the 87th District.

The one subject that came up frequently was the Morrow Roads Levy. Candidates for commissioner, sheriff and others voiced their support for the 2-mil levy that will allow roughly $2.1 million/year for paving when added to the additional revenue from license plate fees.

Conversation among the audience during the break centered on the fact that many of the candidates have impressive qualifications, were very experienced in business, have military experience or other areas of expertise.

Hours of operation at the Board of Election are posted on the Morrowcountyohio.gov website for those who have questions about their voting location, or who need to vote by absentee ballot.

Board of Elections phone number is 419-946-4026.
