ASHLAND NAMES NEW PROVOST – Ashland University President Dr. Carlos Campo has announced that Dr. Eun-Woo Chang has been hired as the new provost at Ashland University. He will start in his new role in mid-April.
“We conducted a thorough, national search for our next academic leader and we are very excited to be able to announce that Dr. Eun-Woo Chang has been selected to serve as the next provost of Ashland University,” Dr. Campo said. “Dr. Chang has considerable experience in higher education, including serving as the academic leader at Mercer County Community College in New Jersey since 2014.”
AU Professor of Biology Dr. Mason Posner, who served as chair of the Provost Search Committee, agreed with Dr. Campo.
UF TO OPEN ART EXHIBIT – The University of Findlay’s annual Art Department Faculty Exhibit has opened and will run through Jan. 29 in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion’s Lea Gallery. A free, public reception for the artists will be held Friday, Jan. 22 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the gallery.
Exhibiting their works are Ed Corle, associate professor of art who teaches ceramics, sculpture and three-dimensional design; Laura Corle, an adjunct instructor who teaches watercolors; Spencer Cunningham, an art instructor who specializes in photography; Valerie Escobedo, who teaches painting, drawing, printmaking and visual fundamentals; Diane Kontar, Ph.D., associate professor of art history, whose conceptual artwork is inspired by ideas about art history; Marie Louden-Hanes, Ph.D., professor of art history whose two large paintings in this year’s exhibit suggest the shapes and shadows of a pine forest and the swell of the sea at the close of day; Anne Beekman, assistant professor of graphic design whose client accounts have included Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Verizon Wireless and more; and Anita McCandless, who has taught design at UF since 1990.

OTTERBEIN SLATES RECITAL – Otterbein faculty members Jesse Heetland, trumpet, and Jennifer Bell, organ, will perform a recital at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, at Church of the Messiah United Methodist, 51 N. State St. The performance is free and open to the public.
The program will include works for trumpet and organ, as well as some solo organ pieces. The pieces for trumpet and organ will include Ozymandias by Robert J. Bradshaw, Job Suite by T. Paul Rosas, Invocation by Bernard Reichel and Konzert “Ich danke Gott und freue mich” by Manfred Spiller. These works were all written between 1998 and 2008 and represent some of the directions that a significant portion of the contemporary trumpet-and-organ idiom is taking: drawing on historical liturgical traditions; using modern tonal harmonies; and basing works on programmatic sources. Two short organ-only sets will continue these themes through music by Helmut Walcha and Emma Lou Diemer. This concert is intended to be enjoyable to a wide audience, pleasing both musicians and music-lovers alike.
