Recipients of community service awards have been named by Chester Arbor of the Gleaner Fraternal Insurance Society.

Dixie Shinaberry received the Adult Award; Janet Bedwell, the Senior Award and the Youth Award was given to Aaron Evans. Each was presented an insurance policy and a clock from the Gleaner home office.

In addition, Rudy Gilbert’s family was given a caring hands donation from Chester Arbor and the home office.

Other community support functions include a donation to the American Red Cross for fire alarms, kettle corn give-a-ways supporting Friends of Cardington, donations to the Morrow County Historical Society, transporting Tomorrow Center students to a Palace Theater production of “Arcattack,” and preparing a tote worth $250 for Little City in the Chicago area taken by four members to the biennial convention.

Other support functions include serving the veterans and a donation to Post 97 of the American Legion, Cardington, assisting with the food drive for the Boy Scouts in Mt Gilead, support of the Pleasant jump rope teams, programs for Woodside Village residents and a Mission trip for eight people.

Chester Arbor teamed with Whetstone Industries in December when they served their Christmas dinner to 177 people including several invited county political officials.

Members met in a conference room where they packed gift boxes for the Senior Center which were in turn given to the Meal-On-Wheels recipients for the holidays.

In addition, the Gleaners sponsor a $1000 scholarship through the home office which will be given to a college student.
