What Daniel L. Fricke has appreciated most in his 40 years of leadership with the Morrow County Honor Guard is “the appreciation that families of veterans show for the honor guard services. Being in the Honor Guard is very rewarding.”
Fricke said that the Honor Guard appears at services not only at Veterans and Memorial Day, but also at funerals. He said they were already at 30 funeral services to date this year.
Dan’s wife, Connie, said that Dan sees his work with the Honor Guard as a “labor of love.” He always goes when he’s called, whether there’s rain, ice or snow, she said, adding that he loves working for the post.
“We need to never forget those who give their lives and those who are in harm’s way now,” Dan said. “Those advisors in Syria now have a hard duty.”
Dan served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1963-65 at Fort Richardson in Alaska. He worked with the transport division there.
Commander of the V.F.W. Post 8054, Clarence Keckler presented Fricke with a Certificate of Appreciation for his 40 years of service with the Honor and Color Guard from 1976 to 2016.
