The Morrow County Republican Century Club Appreciation Banquet was held at the Cardinal Center in Marengo on November 12, 2015. Recognition of new and special memberships was done by Robert and Sharon Hickson. Dan Osborne introduced local and state elected officials as well as introducing new candidates running for office.
The presentation of Colors was handled by AMVETS Post 87. The Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation was done by Carolyn Beal.
The Master of Ceremonies, Tim Sharrock, welcomed everyone to the event and introduced the guest speaker as the Honorable Congressman Pat Tiberi. Tim Sharrock advised the group that Congressman Pat Tiberi is very supportive of Morrow County and attends many of our events. Pat Tiberi is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee that has jurisdiction over tax issues, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and trade agreements. He is currently the chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade. He previously served as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures that has jurisdiction over Federal tax policy. Pat continues to serve as a member of that subcommittee today. Pat updated the group on what is presently going on in Washington.
Pat is an advocate of comprehensive tax reform that would create a simpler, more stable and more transparent tax code. Until that is achieved he is working to create certainty for families and employers by making permanent some tax provisions that are often extended retroactively. Through his efforts, he has introduced legislation that passed the House of Representatives to make Permanent Section 179 expensing and bonus depreciation —two provisions in tax code that give certainty to small businesses and free capital for them to invest in their operations.
The congressman was greeted with a standing ovation after he was done speaking. Tim Sharrock finished by saying how nice it was to have someone like Pat Tiberi in Washington looking out for Morrow County.
