Update 11/04/2015 at 12:00 pm – The numbers are in for this fall’s election and 46.97% of registered voters in Morrow County visited the polls to cast their ballot on state and local issues.
Ohio voters passed State Issue 1 (a bipartisan, public process for drawing legislative districts). The issue also passed in Morrow County with YES 6139 votes (61.43%) // NO 3854 votes (38.57%).
State Issue 2 (designed to prohibit market monopolies) was also passed in Ohio. The issue failed in Morrow County with NO 5383 votes (51.55%) // YES 5059 votes (48.45%)
State Issue 3 (legalization of limited sale and use of marijuana) failed in both Ohio and Morrow County with NO 7085 votes (67.01%) // YES 3488 32.99%
Locally, there were 30 levy issues to be decided and, so far, the Additional 0.5 Mill 5 Yr levy for Gilead Township Cemeteries is the only to fail, with 735 votes (39.90%) for the tax levy and 1107 votes (60.10%) against the tax levy.
The Marengo Village Additional 2.5 Mill Continuing levy for current expenses TIED with 35/35 votes. Morrow County Board of Elections Director Penny Porter said the final vote will come after the provisional ballots are tallied November 18. However, if the vote remains a tie, the levy will not pass, as O.R.C. 5705.26 states a majority vote is necessary to pass levies.
