EDISON- Meeting at the Edison Methodist Church were 38 people who viewed the awarding of the Gleaner CVR (Community Volunteer Recognition) Awards to Pat Hensel and Garry Hartman by Gleaners President Rita Barton.

Hensel has chaired the not for profit faith-based outreach in Marion, called Leapin’ Outreach Center. It began 18 years ago by providing clothing for individuals and families but has grown to a much larger outreach, networking with many agencies in the area.

By working with freshmen through seniors with a program called JOG (Jobs for Ohio Graduates), Hartman has helped students have competency in both life and work skills after high school, whether they attend college, enter the military or work. She received national recognition as Outstanding JOG Specialist.

Both were awarded a Gleaner Annuity by Chester Arbor.

Fellowship was enjoyed by all with a dinner provided by Chester Arbor prior to the presentation of the awards.

The Arbor has been supportive of the Alzheimer Walk, Valesano Bike Ride for the Cleveland Clinic, Drug Court graduates (provided refreshments), Cardington Street Fair, and monetary support for a displaced family trying to attain housing and the Seniors on Center for the lunches at the fair. Plans are still in progress for two more IMPACT activities and being part of the Edison parade and Senior Day at the fair. A short update on Hidden Lakes was also given.

The next meeting will be September 12 in the Edison Baptist Church fellowship hall at 6 pm. Guests are welcome. For further information, call 419-565-2887
