Jenkins-Vaughan Post 97 of the American Legion hosted a Veterans Day dinner for 60 veterans and their families at the post home in Cardington.

Adding to the table decor were 5 x 7 inch placards, each with a hand written message of tribute from a Harding High School history student.

This program is a project of Gary Kleptack, history teacher at Harding High School and director of the Marion Remembrance project. Kleptack said this is a project he conducts annually, presenting the placards from the students to area veteran organizations.

Jim Morris, the post first vice commander, honored the following post members for their years of membership with the American Legion: Tom Graham, 40 years; Kenneth Rush, 55 years and Jim Robinson, 15 years.

Morris also conducted the Post Everlasting Ceremony for the following members who passed away the past year: Dick Himler, Gene Davis, Gary Fowble, Jr., and Bob Robinson.

Post Commander Jim Crawford served as the evening’s emcee.

The swiss steak dinner was prepared and served by members of Auxiliary Unit 97. The post is grateful to the donor who anonymously donated $1,000 to the cost of the dinner.
