Derek Barker swept the awards that were made Sunday when the Junior Fair Awards program was held at the grandstand during the Morrow County Fair.
He was named the recipient of the Leadership Award, given by the Morrow CountyRepublicans and presented by Tom Whiston and the Citizenship Award presented by Richard Sears, Jr. on behalf of the Morrow County Democratic party.
Barker and Ellie Logan were each awarded a $250 scholarship from the Morrow County Senior Fair Board and presented by Julie Logan, junior fair coordinator.
Barker represented the Happy Hemstitchers and Haymakers 4-H Club and the Mount Gilead FFA. He has held many offices including that of president, vice president, and recreation leader with his 4-H club where he has been a member for nine years. He also helps young people with their projects.
He served as the FFA Chapter Sentinel last year and was four year chairman of the committee in which he became a leader for the chapter.
He has also been a leader as a 4-H Camp Counselor and serves on the Junior Fair Board and is active with the Morrow County Junior Leaders, the Morrow County Pork Producers, the Morrow County Camp Counselors and was a Boy Scout. He worked on the 4-H Club Float Committee, the flower bed committee and the fair booth committee.
The son of Dan and Becky Barker, Derek is 2015 Mount Gilead High School graduate. During his high school career, he ran track. He will be attending OSU ATI Wooster where he will study Livestock Management.
The Leadership and Citizenship Awards totaled $150.00.
Logan, daughter of Rob and Julie Logan, is a 2015 Northmor High School graduate and will be attending The Ohio State University ATI at Wooster majoring in Agricultural Business.
She represented the Northmor FFA and the Country Crossroads 4-H Club where she has been enrolled for four years and nine months.
“I have learned how much agriculture means to the world. By learning this I decided that I want to be a part of helping our world have what it needs to survive.”
She served as 4-H President, vice president, treasurer and was the student advisor and reporter with the FFA. She works with the 4-H Trash Bash, cleans the Township Hall, is active with P.A.L. and is a member of the Morrow County Junior Fair Board.
As a member of the National Honor Society she served as the chapter president. Her citizenship role with the NHS included work with the bake sale and the Ice Cream Sundae sale. She was also a teacher’s assistant. Ellie is a Sunday School teacher, works with the Clothes Closet, Relay for Life and is active with Farm Days.

Band Awards
Entertaining Sunday afternoon during the Junior Fair Awards program at the Morrow County Fair were the four county high school bands.
Each band performed in front of the grandstand between the awards presentations.
At the performance conclusion, the Morrow County Republican Party presented a $75 check to the director of each band.
John Nippert gave Cardington-Lincoln High School Band director John Brehm the check. James Kim, Highland High School Band director, received the check from Bill Short; Chris Kaschube, Northmor High School director, accepted the check from Kim Bood and Dick Miller presented the check to Todd Fessler, Mount Gilead High School Band director.
