When the 35th OhioHealth Marion Popcorn Festival 100 Bicycle Tour takes place Saturday, September 12, bicycle riders will travel in a meandering route through Marion, Morrow and Delaware Counties.

The route will take them through Cardington where they will be served lunches in the shelter house at the American Legion Community Park.

The lunches served from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm will be provided by Dexter’s Subway, Cardington. Those on the 100 mile tour will be served lunch on their return route through Cardington, Along the route Honey Stinger will provide organic gels and energy bars at food stops along the way.

Heading up the tour for the second year will be Jeff Youngs, who owns and operates an insurance agency in Cardington. Youngs said last year there were 225 riders. He expects between 250 -300 this year. Riders have the option of four different mileage tours, 25, 35, 62 and 100.

All but the 25 mile tour will be served the luncheon. He expects 200 to 250 riders in the other three mileage tours.

Youngs said riders in the latter three mileage tours will take a meandering route of several county roads before turning west on Ohio 529 into Cardington.

He said this year’s 100 mile route will feature a long steady 30 mile climb just north of the reservoir at mile 30, to Candlewood Lake at 1250 feet above sea level

Youngs said the tour is “like all tours, all about fun and exploring roads less traveled with friends and family.”
