Northmor Government, JOG, and Youth Safety Council students were welcomed to the state capitol at the end of May as a recipient of a 2014-2015 school transportation grant.
The grant was made available through a generous gift from Honda of America Mfg. Inc. and the Wal-Mart Foundation.
The students were greeted by State House of Representative Jeff McClain. Representative McClain arranged for the students to become a Representative for the day by being able to sit at the desks on the floor of the House of Representatives. The students had the chance to vote on a current bill that is being discussed on the floor. Each of the students learned about the bill, made their decision, and pushed their button on the desk. They saw their vote light up on the tally board in the House along with the rest of their peers.
It was a great experience for the students and the highlight of their day. Mr. Gwirtz- Government Instructor and Mr. Donner – World Studies Instructor, said you could not ask for a greater hands on learning experience.
