The Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools Board of Education held a special board meeting on July 7 to approve the hiring of four new employees, to accept the resignation of another, and to approve the Tomorrow Center In-School-Restriction contract.

The board approved the hiring of Herb Breymaier – Intervention Specialist. He will serve as the MH teacher for the high school. Also hired were James Helmecamp – Director of Operations; Christina Kottenstette – Guidance Counselor for Park Avenue Elementary; and Erin Whipple as a substitute teacher.

The board approved the resignation of Brandon Haycox, a teacher at the Tomorrow Center. Haycox has accepted a position at Westerville, which is closer to his home.

Superintendent Jeff Thompson explained the ISR contract with the Tomorrow Center. Previously, because Mt. Gilead was the sponsor of the Tomorrow Center, they received ISR services for free. Now that they are no longer the sponsor, they will be charged as all of the other districts are charged. The board approved the contract.

One item not on the agenda was the resignation of Kristine Michael, Director of Curriculum & Special Education. Thompson explained that he had just received her resignation prior to the board meeting and had spoken to her. She has accepted a position with Buckeye Valley schools. Her resignation will be brought to the board at the regular board meeting on July 21. He noted that he wanted the board to be aware so that they could post the open position immediately.

Thompson explained that school employees that are under contract in the State of Ohio have until July 10 to resign. After the July 10 deadline, it is up the board whether they will accept the resignation or require the employee to work the contracted school year.

The next regular board meeting is July 21, 2015 at 7:00 pm.
