The 2017 Morrow County Junior Fair king and queen will be crowned on Tuesday, Aug. 29, in the youth building on the fairgrounds. The program, to begin at 6:30 pm, will be hosted by last year’s king and queen, Adam Barrett and Miranda Harvey.

Queen candidates are Kayla Barker, Becca Duckworth, Marissa Hall, Andrea Oldham and Alyssa Thompson.

Manny Heilman and Jacob Serio are the king candidates.

Barker, 16, is a senior at Mount Gilead High School. The daughter of Dan and Becky Barker, she is a nine-year member of the Happy Hemstitchers and Haymakers 4-H Club and has belonged to the Mt. Gilead FFA for three years.

Her activities include membership in the National Honor Society, treasurer of the FFA, three years running track and she played varsity basketball three years.

Duckworth, 16, is a senior at Northmor High School and the daughter of Anthony and Lisa Duckworth. She is a three-year member of the Northmor FFA and has belonged to the Johnsville Jolly Farmers and Farmerettes 4-H Club for nine years.

Other activities include membership on the Morrow County Junior Fair Board where she serves as secretary; current president of the Northmor FFA and president of her 4-H Club. She played varsity basketball and was team captain; ran cross country, was on the softball team and is a Girl Scout.

Hall, 17, is a senior at Cardington-Lincoln High School where she is a four-year member of the FFA Chapter, named to the National Honor Society, and the Prom Committee and is a volunteer with the Cardington Food Pantry. She was captain of the varsity volleyball team and belongs to the Book Club and Spanish Club.

The daughter of John and Dedra Hall, she belongs to the Morrow County Cattleman’s Association and the Ohio Angus Association where she was named Miss Ohio Angus.

Oldham, 16, is the daughter of Robert and Dana Oldham. She is a 2017 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and a six-year member of the Free-4-All 4-H club where she served as reporter/historian and has been a member of the Cardington Book Club (four years) and the FFA Chapter three years. She is enrolled at Marion Technical College.

Thompson, 17, is a senior at Highland High School where she played softball, belongs to the Youth and Government, the school Book Club, junior leaders. She is a three-year member of the Junior Fair Board and is president of the America’s Country Farmers 4-H Club where she has held membership for nine years.

The daughter of Steve and Mindy Wilczynski, Alyssa participates in the Trash Bash, her church food pantry and had a role in her church Christmas play.

Heilman, 17, is a senior at Northmor Local High School. The son of Allen and Elizabeth Heilman, he is a three-year member of the junior fair board and 10-year member of the Johnsville Jolly Farmers and Farmerettes.

He belongs to the FFA, the Honors Choir, the marching and pep bands; the National Honor Society, and the Morrow County Bee Association. He runs track, cross country and is in the wrestling program. Heilman also founded his school’s Chess Club.

Serio, 17, is the son of Keven Brandt and Michelle Serio. He is a senior at Highland High School. He is a nine-year member of the Highland Achievers 4-H Club and has served on the junior fair board three years where he is currently the treasurer.

He is president of Youth in Government, vice president of the student council and belongs to the Honor Society. Other member-ships include junior leaders; State Ambassadors; Capital Challenge and he is the county representative to the Citizenship-Washington- Focus trip.

Prior to the coronation ceremony, the annual Royalty Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. in the Youth Building when Commodity Ambassadors from Ohio fairs will join those from Morrow County as guests.

It will hosted by the mothers of the 2016 king and queen. Sponsoring the dinner will be the Morrow County Cattleman’s Association; Morrow County Pork Producers, the Morrow County Dairy Association and the Junior Fair Board, Julie Logan, junior fair coordinator.
