Members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 97, Cardington, presented a $500 scholarship to Angela Curren during the unit’s meeting on June 20, the last meeting of the year.

Curren attended Marion Technical College for two years and has transferred to Ohio State University at Marion. The scholarship was presented by Shirley Robinson, chairman of the committee.

Flag Chairman Robinson reported there are plenty of flags for purchase.

Membership Chairman Betty Cook said the unit is at 82 percent membership.

Patty McAvoy, Children and Youth Chairman, received a first place in Group Three in District Competition, based on her annual report.

Community Service Chairman Clara McClenathan reminded members to keep track of their volunteer hours and charity donations.

The 2017 National Convention will be held in August at the Reno Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.

Curren reviewed the Cardington-Lincoln Education Foundation program in which 96 students are enrolled from Cardington and Gilead Christian Schools. The unit donated $260 to the program to cover the cost of scissors.

Patty McAvoy’s name was drawn for the kitty and she was present.

Unit 97 will meet next on Sept. 19.
