The ninth annual Sweet Corn Festival is set for this Friday and Saturday in downtown Mt. Gilead on and around the square.
The Morrow County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event; a two-day festival with a schedule of events that has something for everyone. Roasted sweet corn, live entertainment, competitions, a pageant and the 6th annual Car Show are some of the highlights, with plenty of food vendors on Main Street.
On Friday:
6-10 pm …a Pork BBQ Dinner will be served on the square by the Cornerstone Cafe and Grill.
6 -10 pm …The annual car show, with judging at 7:30 pm and awards at 8 pm. No entry fee.
There will be a 50/50 drawing, a vote for People’s Choice and door prizes.
6:30 pm …The Sweet Corn Queen, Princess and Junior Princess Pageant starts at Seniors on Center.
6:30 pm … a corn-shucking contest will be held at Center and Main streets.
7 – 10 pm …Parental Guidance band takes the Main Stage for live entertainment.
The Knights of Columbus will have a beer garden.
On Saturday:
7 – 10:30 am …a Pancake Breakfast will be held at Seniors on Center. Cost is a donation (to go to charity).
9:30 am … a Kids and Kritter Parade will be held.
A Junior Tractor Pull will also be held Saturday morning.
11 am – 8 pm … vendors on Main Street will be in operation.
Noon … a roasted Chicken Dinner will be served on the square by Jeph’s Barbeque. Fresh roasted sweet corn will be available.
1 – 4 pm … Family Fun Demonstrations will be held, including Morrow County’s Strongest Man and Woman Competition, Buckeye Training and Fitness Demonstrations, and more.
6 pm … Corn Eating Contest.
7 – 11 pm …Steel Creek Band takes the Main Stage for live entertainment.
