Rep. Wes Goodman, Ohio House Representative 87th District, returned to his alma mater when he visited third grade and kindergarten classrooms.
The 2002 C-LHS graduate and Cardington resident, took the AIR practice test on line with the third grade students in the classroom taught by Dawn Ruehrmund. This is the test linked to the Third Grade Guarantee. Third grade students must pass this test to be promoted to fourth grade. Third graders will take the real AIR test on March 20 and March 22.
Goodman also visited Katie Scohy’s kindergarten classroom and while there he observed the students doing independent learning centers and watched a reading group read grade appropriate texts. The class was celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday so Congressman Goodman helped with the celebration by reading “There’s A Wocket in my Pocket,” by Dr. Seuss.
Scohy noted “The kids really enjoyed having Wes in our room and sharing with him all of the awesome learning they are doing to get ready for first grade”
Goodman said “One of the best parts of serving our community is spending time in the classroom with kids and teachers. Not only is it a valuable way to see our education system at work, it’s wonderful to get to visit and share about the importance of learning to become an engaged and educated citizen. I’m continually impressed by our students and teachers and always come away with the firm belief that the future of our community is in good hands. As we continue to find ways to make our education system work better, I will continue to listen to the parents, teachers, administrators and community leaders right here in our part of Ohio.”
