Marion, Ohio – June 30, 2015 –Registration deadline nears for “Set the Stage” Theatre Camps at the historic Marion Palace Theatre located in downtown Marion, Ohio. These week-long summer day camps offer youth ages 6 through 14 the opportunity to become involved in the arts. Registration deadline is one week before camp begins. Spaces are filling quickly and at the time of publication only a few spots are available for the first week of camp.

Students may choose between camp dates July 27-July 31 and August 3-August 7. Professional singer, performer and voice instructor, Johnny Steiner, will direct these theatre camps.

“Set The Stage” Theatre Camps have been part of the theatre’s programming since 1998 and have become a summertime tradition for many young thespians of all skill levels. Youth who participate in “Set The Stage” Theatre Camp at the Marion Palace Theatre learn about the stage production process which includes learning lines and cues, preparing song and dance numbers and performing on the Palace stage. This camp will teach students acting skills, give them performance experience, build a sense of accomplishment, and most of all allow time to have fun.

Students are divided into age appropriate camps. Children ages 6 to 8 years will meet from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon Monday through Thursday and learn a whimsical musical comedy written by Johnny Steiner titled “Typically, A Typical Hike in the Woods.” In this mini-musical, our young performers simulate a typical hike in the woods with backpacks, bird-watching, tents…and even a song about bats. The show features familiar folk songs and plenty of singing, dancing, and acting designed specifically for this age group.

Students age 9 to 14 years will meet from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday to collaborate on “Summer Camp – A Musical Caper About Finding a Place to Belong.” This original musical by John Jacobson and Mac Huff takes place at a wacky campground called Camp Runamok. The show has everything we love and fear about the summer camp experience, from the morning routine and bugs on parade to corny camp skits and the ultimate talent show.

On Friday afternoon all campers will come together for rehearsals at 3pm and a final performance for friends and family at 5:30pm. Morning camp fee is $65. Afternoon camp fee is $75. PCAA members receive a 10% discount and siblings enrolled in the same camp receive a 5% discount. Healthy snacks are served mid-session.

Brochures with full camp details and registration forms were distributed to elementary and middle school aged children through area schools. Additional brochures are available at the Palace Theatre Box Office (276 W. Center Street, Marion, Ohio).
