Esther Ackerman Cobourn observed her centennial birthday as the guest of honor at a reception attended by friends and family. The event was held on her 100th birthday, Jan. 1 at St. John Lutheran Church, Windfall, where she is a life long member.

Hosted by her family, the event included a luncheon and a slide show chronicling her life.

A Cardington area resident her entire life, she was born January 1, 1917 to Gottlob and Imo Ackerman. A 1935 Cardington High School graduate, Esther married William Cobourn in 1945. Her parents and husband are deceased.

Active with her church, Esther was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Piecemakers Sewing Group, Women of the Church and the church’s library board.

A highlight of the birthday celebration was the reading of a letter by Pastor Adam Sornchai written by the Presiding ELCA Bishop Elizabeth Eaton in which she recognized the celebrant’s birthday and Lutheran faith.

Asked to what she attributes her longevity she replied “My Maker.”

She is also happy to greet her great grandson each day when he arrives by school bus at her house.

Guests came from as far away as New Mexico, New York and Massachusetts Family members hosting the event were her son, Mark; daughter Marlene

and husband, Howard Radel and grandchildren and spouses, Jason (Melissa) Radel; Jeff Radel and Missy (John) DeForest and great grandchildren, Justin,

Austin, Vanessa and Natalie Radel. Esther expressed her loving appreciation to all who made her special day one to remember.
