Mount Gilead FFA members compted at both the district and state soils contests. On Sept. 27 the Rural Soils team of Jacob Kirkland, Nick McKinney, Jesse Wooddell, Alexis McCoy, Trace Hatfield and Taylor Stephen placed 1st out of 24 teams, Nick placed 2nd, Jacob was 3rd, Alexis was 6th and Jessie was 19th out of 100 total competitors.

The Urban team of Sarah Howell, Morgan Beck, Elijah Chaney, Xavier Nells, Dylan Dixon and Brittany Kuykendall placed 3rd out of 19 teams. Sarah Howell was 5th, Morgan was 7th, Elijah was 8th and Xavier 10th, out of a total of 88 competitors. All six of our members were in the top 13 scores.

Both teams qualified for the state contest which was held on October 8, 2016 in Fairfield County. The Rural team of Jacob Kirkland, Nick McKinney, Jessie Wooddell and Alexis McCoy placed 13th in the state. Jacob Kirkland was the high scorer for the Rural team placing 28th out of 162 contestants.

The Urban team of Sarah Howell, Morgan Beck, Elijah Chaney and Xavier Nells placed 32nd at the state contest, where Sarah was the high team scorer placing 81st out of 156 competitors.
