Morrow County Democratic Women got right to work at their meeting Tuesday at Edison Depot Restaurant.

Club President, Lindsey Kohlenburg got the ball rolling with sign up opportunities for Farm Days, Candidates dinner Aug. 9 and the Porter campaign for Commissioner.

On Aug. 9, the Morrow County Democratic Party will host several candidates at the “JFK” dinner at the Cardington Legion beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Kohlenburg noted that it’s a good opportunity to meet candidates and network with other democrats. Speakers include Frances Strickland, representing Ted who is running for U.S. Senate, Ed Albertson, running for U. S. Congress, District 12 and Mike Porter running for Morrow County Commissioner. Judge candidates Earl Wise and Cynthia Rice are also slated for the occasion.

Campaign news was shared from the Ohio Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Several from Morrow County travelled to Fort Hayes in Columbus last Sunday to attend the Clinton rally. They shared their enthusiasm for the candidate and look forward to the coming ‘Hillary Weekend of Action.”

There is a new regional organizer, Shannon Casey who will be at the Democrat Campaign office in the Ray law office in Cardington. Other options for a campaign office in Mount Gilead are in the works.

There was quite a bit of discussion on how best to support the Clinton – Kaine Presidential ticket this fall. Rather than making a statement or campaigning on the fact that Clinton is the first female President, members decided it was more important to encourage registration to vote and provide information on Clinton’s policies. Lynn Michaels reminded members that many of Bernie Sanders ideas have been incorporated into Clinton’s platform.

Kohlenburg noted that supporting local issues and the election of local candidates is the mission of the county Democratic club. Several from the group are working with Mike Porter going door-to-door for his campaign for county commissioner. There will be a kick-off for his candidacy at the State Lakes Park on Aug. 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Help is also needed at the Democrats’ booth during fair week Aug. 29th –Sept. 5th. Donations are needed to purchase 4-H rabbits at the Morrow County Fair. Democrats support the Jr. Fair auction to reward 4-H kids for their accomplishments.

Members were reminded that early voting begins on Oct. 12.

Sept. 6 is the next meeting of the Democratic Women’s Club at 6 p.m. in Edison Depot Restaurant.
