Mount Gilead – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one vehicle fatal crash.
The accident occurred at 11:06 p.m. on July 3 on State Route 61 near mile-marker 8 in Morrow County.
A 2015 Black Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling northbound on State Route 61. The van went off of the right side of the roadway, striking a traffic sign and culvert before overturning. It came to rest on the passenger side.
The driver, Larry Claffey, 63, of Mount Gilead, was transported to the Morrow County Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The passenger, Kathy Claffey 60 of Mount Gilead, was also transported to Morrow County Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Morrow County EMS and Fire Departments were on scene and assisted with extrication. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Department was also present.
Alcohol is not a factor in the crash and seatbelts were in use.
