A late Northmor rally fell short in softball, as two seventh-inning runs couldn’t push them past host Danville in a 3-2 loss.

Taylor Cantrell picked up a pair of singles for the Golden Knights, while McKenna VanDyke smacked a home run and Mahaila Strobel contributed a double. Kate Kissling suffered the loss. She struck out six, walked one and gave up four hits.

Northmor rebounded on Friday to defeat host Mount Gilead by a 14-2 count.

The team finished with 15 hits in the game, including a home run, double and single by Kissling. VanDyke had a triple and two singles, while Emily Zeger also had a three-base hit. Raelyn Fulk, Lexi See and Maddie Simpson all had doubles. Also, Reagan See had three hits and Strobel added two.

Kissling also earned the win. She and Shelby Cooper combined to strike out eight, walk two and give up six hits.

Northmor won a pair of softball games on Saturday when they hosted Ridgedale.

The first game went their way by an 11-0 count thanks to Cooper pitching a no-hitter. She struck out seven and walked one. Both Fulk and VanDyke had triples, while Kissling and Zeger both added a pair of singles.

The final score of the second game was 6-2 in favor of the Golden Knights. Both Simpson and VanDyke tallied a double and single to pace the team on offense. Kissling earned the win. She scattered eight hits in the game, but also struck out nine.

Cardington Pirates

A strong outing by Genevieve Longsdorf led Cardington to a 5-0 win over host Fredericktown in a Tuesday softball game.

Longsdorf pitched a complete game, striking out 12 while only giving up three hits. She also led the team offensively, picking up a double and single in the contest.

The Lady Pirates were topped 11-1 by Lancaster on Friday and were held to a pair of singles in the contest. Longsdorf, who took the loss, and Ari Simpson combined to strike out seven, walk two and give up 14 hits.

The team would then lose a pair of games at North Union on Saturday.

Against the home team, they fell by a 2-1 margin thanks to a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kayden Burchett had a three-single day for the Pirates, while Simpson walked one and gave up eight hits in going the distance.

The Pirates also lost 10-0 to Olentangy Orange in a game that saw them get one-hit. Longsdorf gave up nine hits, while striking out four and walking two in the contest.

Mount Gilead Indians

The Mount Gilead softball team had a huge day Tuesday in defeating host Mansfield Christian by a 24-1 margin.

Lindsey Ayers struck out four, walked one and scattered a pair of hits in pitching a five-inning complete game. The team tallied 21 hits on the day, with Kierra Main picking up five singles. Greer Simpson had a double and two singles, while Trinity Schrote finished with a double. Ayers and Lillian Ward both had three singles, while Savannah Wilt added two singles.

The Lady Indians were topped twice by Delaware Christian on Saturday.

The first game was a 16-8 loss. Simpson finished with a double and three singles for the Indians. Hayleigh Brown added three singles, while both Wilt and Main finished with two hits. Brown suffered the loss in the game. She and Ayers combined to strike out eight, but also walk 10 and give up nine hits.

The second game went to Delaware Christian by an 8-7 count with Brown picking up the decision. Simpson picked up three hits, including a home run and triple.

Highland Scots

The Highland softball team was topped by visiting Westerville Central by a 5-1 margin on Monday.

The Scots were held to four hits in the game, with Aubree Bellamy and Dalaynie Hernandez both picking up doubles. Stevie Asher struck out six, walked two and gave up seven hits in suffering the loss.

Highland rebounded on Tuesday, defeating Pleasant by a 10-0 count in five innings.

Kate Clements hit a triple and single for the host Scots, while Asher had a double and two singles and Abby Jordan also had a double. Asher also pitched a three-hitter. She struck out six and walked one.

Highland made it a sweep of Pleasant on Thursday, picking up a 9-3 win on the road.

Kaymi Lewis picked up a home run for the Scots, while Bellamy contributed three singles and Clements added two. Asher claimed the win, striking out nine and walking three.
