Selover Public Library in Chesterville opened its third Little Free Library on March 9, this one in Chesterville in front of the Chesterville General Store. The Chester Lodge #238 is partnering with Selover Library to host the Little Free Library on their property.

Little Free Libraries are boxes where people can take free books or leave free books that they are finished with. The purpose is to make books more accessible so that everyone in the community has something to read.

“When I first saw Little Free Libraries, I thought I couldn’t take a book out of them unless I had one to swap,” said Selover Library Director Martha Wall. “That’s really not the case. People should feel free to take books out of any of our Little Free Libraries even if they don’t have any to leave.”

Selover Library is the “steward” of the new Little Free Library, meaning they built and installed the box and will make sure it stays in good condition and well stocked with books. The books inside the boxes are for all ages and are refreshed using donations to Selover Library and books discarded from the library’s collection.

Selover Library is also the steward of two other Little Free Libraries, one in Sparta and one in Marengo. The one is Sparta is mounted on the rear of Highland Middle School, and the one in Marengo is next to US Bank.

“We are thankful to Chester Lodge, US Bank, and Highland Schools for allowing us to place boxes on their property,” Wall said. “Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to get books into the hands of everyone who wants them.”

If people have too many book donations to fit neatly inside the Little Free Library, Selover Library accepts gently used books during their regular hours. To find out more about donating books to Selover Library, visit https://www.seloverlibrary.org/support-the-library.
