Mount Gilead Police officer, Kenny Underwood was all smiles when Whetstone Aktion Club and People First officers presented him with a huge basket of Snickers candy bars and a gift certificate.
Underwood accepted the gifts for the Mount Gilead Police department and joked he wouldn’t eat all the treats before he got back to the station. Chad Wogan explained that the two Whetstone clubs wanted to thank the police officers in Mount Gilead for all they do for the community. The clubs took the money they raised from candy bar sales and other fund raisers for this project. The basket the candy is in was made at Whetstone Industries and is one of their popular products at the Industries.
Whetstone Industries Staff member, Sandi Williamson said that “Aktion Club” is a part of Kiwanis service club. They have many service projects such as cleaning up streets, parks and other ways they help the community.
“People First” is a self-advocacy group where participants learn about choice, confidence and community involvement. Williamson added that the clubs will be working on fundraisers to get a new police canine as one of their next projects.
Officer Underwood said that the police department appreciates the support from Whetstone groups.
“It makes our job a lot easier, knowing we have your support,” Underwood said.
