Marengo community businesses, first responders and local professionals came together to offer families a fun filled Saturday this weekend.

The occasion was the open house for the new salon, Design Studio 27.

Design Studio 27 manager and artistic designer, Diana Detillion organized the event with the support of many in the Marengo community.

There was a bouncy house for children and fire and sheriff’s vehicles were on display for families to see. Local businesses with exhibits at the event included: Cardinal Family Dental, ECO Center, Essentra Pharmacy, Groovy Plants Ranch, Sage Chiropractic, Selover Library, Karen’s Kids Day Care Center, and Gaylord’s Lawn Service.

The crowning event was the arrival of the Med Flight helicopter flying in for an hour in the afternoon. Children had the opportunity to sit in the pilot’s seat and get a good look inside. Marengo Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office, Highway Patrol and Red Cross helped with the activities.

The sheriff’s office and fire department followed Med Flight with a demonstration in the pond behind the fire station next door to Design Studio 27. They showed how a vehicle can be extracted from the water to save the passengers.

Detillion thanked all those who participated in the day as well as sponsors that include: Alum Creek Heating and Cooling, Consolidated Electric, Del Co Water, L’Anza Hair care products, NAPA, Sparkle ‘n Shine, Suds ‘n Sun and Wilson Tire.

All proceeds from the event and sponsors will be distributed equally between the four public school districts in the county for school field trips to the ECO Center. Emily Ollervides of the ECO Center said that the hands-on lessons at the ECO Center are based on classroom learning needs that are chosen by the teachers.
