Cardington jumped out to a fast start at Highland Thursday and held on for a 52-50 win in the first Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference game for both teams.

The Pirates (1-1, 1-0) led 19-6 after eight minutes, but the Scots (0-2, 0-1) rallied in the second to close within a 27-23 margin by the half. Both teams scored 13 in the third and Highland took the fourth 14-12, but Cardington was able to hold on for the win.

The Pirates got 21 points by Devin Pearl and Garrett Wagner added 11. Both players hit three three-pointers each. For Highland, both Alex Mason and Mack Anglin tallied 10 points, while Shane Carney added nine and both Thomas Wheeler and Trent Mason finished with eight.
