The Morrow County TEA Party’s July meeting opened with prayer to our Lord and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the United States of America. Seven first-time attendees received a new-member packet. The treasurer’s report and a report on the financial findings of the Morrow County Engineer’s Office were given. A Questionnaire was distributed to the attendees to be completed and returned at the end of the evening.
The Morrow County TEA Party will have a booth at the fair again this year. A sign-up sheet was circulated for members to fill in their preferred work time slots at the fair. “The Freedom index,” a Congressional scorecard based on the U.S. Constitution published by the JBS, was passed out and discussed. This Index rates congressmen’s voting based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty, and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements. This index rates the first six months of the 114th Congress as follows: Ohio’s U.S. Senators, Brown 10%, Portman 60%; our U.S. Representatives, Jordan 80%, and Tiberi 50%.
With everything that is going on in our government and to our country it was suggested that we show the film “Agenda” again and hopefully inform the public as to what is happening around them. We will have a Movie Night with the time and location to be announced for this showing.
Our guest speaker, Virgil (Jeff) Varner, served in the Tennessee Guard and was awarded the Command Sergeant Major Award for 2003. In 2005 he was appointed to the rank of Major in the Army Service Branch Pentagon for Homeland Security functions. Although sent to Baghdad, Iraq, as an electrical engineer, yet he was tasked to finish the build of a 500 million dollar project that ended up at 2.2 billion dollars. He spoke about his time working with the State Department in Baghdad and our government’s wasteful spending practices that he saw. It was a very interesting and informative talk.
Following the speaker’s presentation the door prize winner was Judy Stanton who received a Gadsden Flag bumper sticker and a patriotic picture album. The gun raffle winner was Ed Kontul of Marengo. Ed won a “Taurus Judge Public Defender” polymer revolver. Many food items were collected and were distributed to No Limits Outreach Center the next day. Coffee, tea, and cookies were available to all during the meeting and social time.
Saturday, July 25, was the TEA Party breakfast get-together at Edison Depot Café at 10 a. m. This informal time was well-attended and a good time was had by all. All activities of the Morrow County TEA Party (a non-partisan organization) are open to the public and all are welcome.
