GALION — The full event schedule for Galion’s Pickle Run festival is now available. It will be held on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5.
Pickle Run kicks off on Saturday morning with the YMCA’s 5K run/walk and kids’ fun run at 8:30 a.m. At noon, kids can head to the football field for Punt, Pass & Kick.
Local favorite “Anything Goes” will return at 4 p.m. The event has contestants doing all sorts of wacky physical activities to score points. There will be five events, which will be announced at the start of the contest. Teams of six are now being accepted for Anything Goes. Cost is $60 per team and teams must provide their own shirts to wear during the competition. You can register by sending a message to the Baseball, Fireworks and Pickle Run Facebook page.
Rounding out the evening will be a teen dance/swim at the Heise Park pool beginning at 7 p.m., and a family movie behind the YMCA beginning at 9:30 p.m.
Pickle Run festivities will continue on Sunday with the Galion Senior Center’s car and cycle show from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. There will also be a disc golf tournament at Amick Reservoir from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and a volleyball tournament in Heise Park beginning at 1 p.m. (court will be sand or mud). At 2 p.m., a parade will travel from the former Galion High School property on Church Street, to Gill Avenue and through Heise Park. Parade applications are being accepted for all floats and walkers. There is no cost to be in the parade. Also, kids up to age 12 are welcome to ride their bicycles in the procession.
From 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, the park will have all sorts of activities leading up to Galion’s annual fireworks show. Local organizations will have activity and information booths set up throughout the park grounds, including kids games, a dunk tank, history walks and more. There will be produce and craft booths as well. The Galion Graders collegiate baseball team will play a home game at 7:05 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at dusk.
