The Mount Gilead girls’ track team took an early lead in their Division III district meet, hosted by Whitehall-Yearling on Tuesday.

Competing in the second of two district meets, the Indians scored 33 points in the field events. For District Two, field events were contested, while in District One, the 3200-meter relay finals were run, as well as preliminary heats in other running events.

Jenna Shipman won the long jump with an effort of 16’7”, while Savannah Randall qualified for regionals in two more events. She placed second in the discus with a throw of 111’4” and was second in the high jump after clearing 4’8”. She also placed fifth in the shot put.

Also scoring points for the Indians was Jadyn Shipman, who was sixth in the pole vault.

Cardington was right behind MG with 32 points. Nadia Kerman advanced to regionals in both throwing events, as she was second in the shot with an effort of 33’11” and third in the discus with a heave of 109’7”. Lilly Grooms also moved on, as she cleared 8’0” in the pole vault for third place.

Alicia McElwee took fifth in the long jump, while Sage Brannon was seventh in that same event. Also placing seventh were Eli Crum in the discus, Abigail Lorimer in the high jump and Destiny Williamson in the pole vault.

For Northmor, who stands in fifth place with 18 points, Karalee Patterson won the pole vault with an effort of 8’0”. Hope Miracle placed fifth in the pole vault and eighth in the long jump.

In the District One boys’ meet, Mount Gilead won the 3200-meter relay, as Kyle Ciballi, Austin Hallabrin, Nicholas Weiss and Casey White ran the race in 8:17.6. Northmor’s quartet of Spencer Adams, James Walker, Kaleb Hart and Alec Moore took third in 8:37.68.

Division II District Meet

Highland, competing in the Division II district meet at Westerville South, scored points in the girls’ 3200-meter relay on Tuesday.

Placing fifth in 10:30.24 was the team of Taylor Belcher, Jena Buchholz, Laura Spearman and Sophia Thompson.
