Mount Gilead swept a five-team track meet at Highland on Tuesday.

The girls finished with 124 points, while second-place Fredericktown had 68 and Highland was third with 56. In the boys’ meet, MG was first with 101 and both Fredericktown and Centerburg tied for second with 81, with Highland placing fourth with 50 points. East Knox also participated in the meet.

The Lady Indians picked up a number of event wins. Hannah Bush, Micah James, Darcy Picker and Kelsey Snyder teamed to take the 3200-meter relay in 10:48.5. The team of Olivia Brewer, Makaylee Elkin, Christa Seckel and Corrin Watts won the 800-meter relay in 1:57.2; while the team of Bush, Hope Hack, Picker and Jenna Shipman won the 1600-meter relay in 4:42.1.

Shipman also won three individual events, taking the 400 in 1:01.8, the 200 in 27.3 and the long jump with an effort of 15’10”. Savannah Randall grabbed two more wins, clearing 4’10” in the high jump and also placing first in the shot put with a toss of 31’1”. Brewer claimed the 100 in 13.4, while Picker placed first in the 800 with a time of 2:38.1

Highland’s girls also won a relay, as Taylor Belcher, Jenna Brown, Erin Conner and Meg Mitchell took the 400-meter relay in 58.0. Laura Spearman won the 1600 in 5:46.7 for the Scots, while Lydia Morgan placed first in the discus, going 102’0.25” in that event.

In the boys’ meet, Mount Gilead’s 1600-meter relay quartet of Casey White, Nick Weiss, Kyle Ciballi and Sawyer Shipman won in 3:44. Those four Indian athletes also grabbed individual wins, as Shipman took the 110 hurdles in 16.7, White won the 1600 in 4:49.2, Weiss claimed the 400 in 55.9 and Ciballi won the 300 in 43.5.

While the Scot boys didn’t win any events, they placed second in five. Travis Mentzer was runner-up in the 800, as were Kaden Bunting in the high jump and Zach Baker in the shot put. Also getting second were the 3200-meter relay of Caleb Matos, Mentzer, Christian Buchholz and Dalton Lee and the 400-meter team of Austyn Albanese, Dakota Bunting, Kaden Bunting and Garrett Mentzer.
