The Highland boys claimed first place in the junior high meet during the Mike Armstrong Invitational on Saturday.

The Scots finished with 169.5 points to finish with nearly twice as many points as second-place Cardington (85). Mount Gilead was sixth in the eight-team meet.

In the girls’ meet, River Valley won, while Highland was second, Mount Gilead was third and Cardington finished seventh.

For the Scot boys, the team of Branton Howard, Austin Dixon, Dylan Stillwell and Jack Weaver won the 1600 relay in 4:18.58. Weaver also took the 100 in 12.44 and the 200 in 25.4. Ryan Weissenfluh added a win in the 400 in 1:03.91, while Howard won the 1600 in 5:09.37 and Cody Baisden claimed the discus with an effort of 107’.

Dixon also placed second in the 400, while Howard took second in the 800 and Bruce Jordan was third in the same event. Nick Gregerson was second in both the 110- and 200-meter hurdles, as were Brandon Pauley in the high jump and Stillwell in the long jump. Also, Baisden was third in the shot.

The Scots also got second in two other relays: the 400-meter team of Stillwell, Ryan Kelley, Landon Remmert and Landyn Albanese and the 800-meter quartet of Albanese, Gavin DeAngelo, Remmert and Pauley.

For Cardington, Mason Goers picked up a trio of wins. He took the 110 hurdles in 16.98, the 200 hurdles in 28.62 and the long jump with an effort of 16’1”. Alexander Groom added a first-place finish in the high jump by clearing 4’9”.

Isaiah Large got third in both the 100 and long jump, while Mason White was third in the 1600.

MG’s top finisher was a second place finish in the 200 by Liam Dennis, who also took third in the 110 hurdles. The team’s 800 relay team of Ethan Supplee, Devin Lee, Graham Simpson and Tyler Knight ran third.

In the girls’ meet, Highland finished second despite only winning one event, as the 1600-meter relay team of Savannah Fitzpatrick, Peyton Carpenter, Makenna Belcher and Cassady Sagar took first in 5:04.84.

The 800 relay team of Kennedy Altizer, Fitzpatrick, Mackenzie Myers and Taylor Edwards finished second, as did Belcher in the 400. Jordan Schauer took second in the 800 and third in the 1600. Also, Miachele White placed third in the 800, Edwards placed third in the 100 hurdles and Emily White placed third in the shot.

Mount Gilead claimed wins in three events, as Jessica Brewer took the 100 in 13.87 and the 200 in 30.84, while Bridgette Millisor won the long jump with an effort of 12’6”.

The 1600 relay of Auna Tack, McKenzie Andrews, Emily Hanft and Olivia Millisor was second, while the 800-meter team of Rayne McGinniss, Alexis McCoy, Hanft and Makayla Weaver was third. Also, Olivia Millisor took second in the high jump and Allison Johnson finished third in the pole vault.

Cardington’s Casey Bertke won the high jump with an effort of 4’10”. Teammate Hannah Wickline took third in the discus.
