Mount Gilead took an early lead and pulled away from Fredericktown over the course of their Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference battle Tuesday.

In winning 50-38, the host Indians jumped out to a 10-7 advantage in the first quarter and continued to hold a lead the rest of the game. They were up 20-14 at the half, 31-25 after three quarters and finished on top by 12.

Tyler Bland and Mason Mollohan led the team in scoring, both with 12 points. Zack Hosack added 11.

Highland Scots

Host Highland got off to a fast start against Elgin on Tuesday, but could not hold on in suffering a 52-39 loss.

The Scots jumped out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter, but a strong Elgin second put them in a 19-18 hole at the half. The Comets then jumped out to a 37-26 advantage after three periods and took the fourth by a 15-13 margin to preserve their win.

Alex Mason paced Highland with 14 points.
