The Mount Gilead High School swim team hosted their first home meet of the season on Dec. 9 at the Marion YMCA.

Competing teams included Upper Sandusky, Lima Senior, Marion Harding and Ridgedale. The Indian swimmers finished in second place behind Upper Sandusky.

“I give a lot of credit to the Upper Sandusky coach—he has a huge team, and while many of his swimmers are beginners, there is a lot of enthusiasm,” reported head coach Dina Snow. “Our team is down in numbers and we were missing some due to sickness, but the swimmers turned in some fine swims. We had some swimmers try some new events and I was very pleased with their efforts. Cassidy Hack tried the 500 for the first time and beat the goal she set by nearly 20 seconds. Tyler Jones had not done the 200 free since early last year, and he dropped over a minute!”

Finishing in the top three in their events were the team of Logan Conrad, Evan Zmuda, Casey Conrad and Kyle Landes, 2nd in the medley relay and 3rd in the 200 free relay; Erin Zmuda, 1st in the 100 free and 2nd in the 200 free; Casey Conrad, 2nd in the 200 free and 1st in the 100 fly; Evan Zmuda, 1st in the 200 IM and 100 Breast; Jay Stratton in the 100 back, and the team of Erin Zmuda, Cassidy Hack, Shelby West and Marion McGill, 2nd in the 200 free relay; and the team of Noah Arrington, Tyler Jones, Aaron Evans and Jay Stratton, 3rd in the 400 free relay.

Also scoring for the Indians were the team of Zmuda, Hack, West and McGill, 5th in the 200 medley relay; team of Andrew McFarland, Gavin Robinson, Spencer Faux and Trenton Ball, 5th in the 200 medley relay; Marion McGill, 6th in the 200 free and 5th in the 100 back; Jay Stratton, 5th in the 200 free; Noah Arrington, 6th in the 200 free; Spencer Faux, 6th in the 200 IM; Cassidy Hack, 5th in the 50 free and 4th in the 500 free; Kyle Landes, 4th in the 50 and 100 free; Logan Conrad, 7th in the 50 free and 4th in the 100 back; Kurtis Brown, 8th in the 50 free and 5th in the 100 free; Aaron Evans, 6th in the 100 fly; Dylan Knight, 7th in the 100 free and 5th in the 100 breast; Gavin Robinson, 6th in the 100 breast; Tyler Jones, 6th in the 100 back; and the team of Noah Arrington, Andrew Evans, Dylan Knight and Kurtis Brown, 6th in the 200 free relay.

Coach Snow would like to encourage the community to support the team at its final home meet, the DII invitational held at the Marion Y on Jan. 9. Interested students and friends can get in free to the meet by serving as timers. Please contact Snow at [email protected] to volunteer.
