A perfect defensive second quarter led Highland to a 51-38 win over Utica Tuesday.

The Scots trailed 10-7 after the first quarter, but they shut out the Redskins in the second to take a 23-10 lead into the half. Both teams scored 13 in the third and 15 in the fourth, as Highland picked up their first win of the season.

Alex Mason led Highland with 14 points, while Thomas Wheeler added nine.

Mount Gilead Indians

A slow start doomed the Mount Gilead boys in a 64-52 loss to Heath.

The Indians fell behind 23-6 after eight minutes of play on Tuesday and could not claw their way out of that hold. Heath took the second period 13-12 to hold an 18-point lead at the half.

Both teams scored 22 in the third quarter before MG outscored their opponents 12-6 in the fourth to close within 12.
