Host Cardington improved to 3-0, 2-0 in league play on Tuesday with a 50-38 win over Centerburg.

Both teams scored 19 points in the opening quarter, but the Pirates outscored their guests 13-9 in the second period, 5-4 in the third and 13-6 in the fourth in order to pull away for the win.

Sage Brannon had a huge game offensively for Cardington, finishing with 26 points.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead got into the win column in girls’ basketball on Tuesday at home against East Knox by a 49-47 margin.

The Indians took the lead in the second quarter on a three-pointer by Becca Kindred and held on for the rest of the contest. After the first half, MG led 22-15 and then the team scored 15 points in the third quarter to solidify that advantage.

Jenna Shipman led the team with 16 points, while both Kindred and Alexis Jolley scored 10 and Hope Hack finished with eight points, nine rebounds and four steals. As a team, the Indians finished with 41 rebounds, one block and 11 steals.

Highland Scots

The Highland girls’ basketball team suffered a 40-14 loss at Fredericktown on Tuesday.

Parker Steck and Krista Walters led the team offensively with five points each.

Northmor Knights

Northmor lost at Elgin on Tuesday by a 51-39 margin. The Knights are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
