For the fourth year, Whetstone has competed in the state team bowling tournament for Special Olympics at Sawmill Lanes in Columbus.

This year, six four-person teams competed in the Unified Division on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Unified teams are comprised of two Special Olympic bowlers and two non-Special Olympic bowlers. Five of the six teams returned with medals. Four of the six teams ended up in the same division, which always makes it tough when you are competing against teams from your own group.

The team of Edith Blanton, Jason Pryor, Katelyn Andrews and Jenni Walters took fifth place with a pin total of 904 for the two-game total. Ellen Chipman, John Higgins, Becky Simpson and Leslie Thiel received bronze medals with a 948. The silver medals went to the new team of Richard Heineman, Karl Getter, Brandon Freeman and Chad Wogan with a team total of 990. The gold went to Garet Leffler, Judy Decker, Terri Smith and Chad Wogan, with a team total of 990.

In Division 20, the team of Raven Carroll, Randy Riley, Robin LaRoche and Brian Hadberg bowled a 974, good enough for a silver medal. Also in Division 20, the always-tough team of Keith Buchanan, Glenn LaVan, David Charles and Michelle Freeman took gold with a 1257.
