Cardington’s Austin Yake earned a trip to the district golf meet after earning the second of three individual qualifying spots Tuesday at the Division III sectional hosted by Darby Creek Golf Course, Marysville.

Yake shot 85 over 18 holes to finish ninth overall and second amongst golfers not on one of the three qualifying teams (Wellington School, Danville and Fairbanks). He will next compete Tuesday at Denison Golf Club in Granville, teeing off at 10:20 a.m.

As a team, the Pirates took ninth place in the sectional. Austin Wilson shot 114, while Jacob Spires had a round of 121 and Logan Doubikin finished with 132 shots.

Northmor also competed at Darby Creek. With three golfers participating, they did not field a full team. Nathan Bird shot 95 to lead the Knights, while Hayes Bentley shot 103 and Andrew Yarnell finished with a score of 111.

Mount Gilead and Highland both competed in the Division II sectional at Oakhaven Golf Course, Delaware. The Indians placed eighth in the meet, while Highland finished ninth.

MG was led by Zack Hosack, who shot 85 to finish only two shots behind Pleasant’s Jason Joehlin, who won a playoff to become the final qualifying individual. Grant Hack shot 95, while Cameron Brown had a round of 98. Also, Mitchell Bell scored 109 strokes and Gavin Mills scored 111.

For the Scots, Ryan Minyo shot 93 to lead the team, while Caleb Dodds finished with 95 strokes. Isaac Dempsey had a round of 106 and Bryan Whited had an 18-hole total of 112.

Division II girls’ sectional

Cardington’s Nadia Kerman barely missed out on a trip to the Division II district golf meet, as she finished one stroke shy of finishing in the top three individuals.

Competing Wednesday at the sectional meet hosted by Mill Creek Golf Course, Kerman shot 88 over 18 holes to finish in a tie for fourth. Christan Bowshier of Madison Plains shot 87 to claim the third and final individual qualifying spot for districts.

Kerman’s teammate, Sage Brannon, shot 98 to finish in a tie for 11th.

Also competing in the sectional were one Mount Gilead golfer, as well as two from Northmor.

Sabrina Helman represented the Indians, finishing 31st with a round of 114. For the Knights, Isabella Szulewski tied for 42nd by shooting 129, while Camryn Ingles shot 131 to place 45th.
