Cleveland Indians

DETROIT — Ryan Raburn has played with Miguel Cabrera against him, and he still marvels at his former teammate.

Cabrera drove in all the runs for Detroit in the Cleveland Indians’ 4-0 loss to the Tigers on Friday night with a 450-foot three-run homer and a double.

“He’s impressive, man. To be a good of a hitter as he is, hit balls like that and hit .330,” Raburn said as he shook his head.

He was Cabrera’s teammate on the Tigers from 2008-12 and has faced him as a member of the Indians since then.

“Man, I tell you what, I’m sure jealous,” Raburn said.

With runners on first and second and one out in the sixth, Cabrera hit Danny Salazar’s first pitch over the center-field fence.

“It’s a joke,” Detroit third baseman Nick Castellanos said. “I can’t hit a ball that far from second base. It’s just Miggy being Miggy.”

It was Cabrera’s 13th home run and also drove in Anthony Gose and Rajai Davis, who led off with singles.

“You feel a little better pitching to him with nobody on,” Cleveland manager Terry Francona said about Cabrera, who added an RBI double in the eighth.

That was more than Tigers starter David Price (6-2) needed.

He pitched a seven-hitter for his third career shutout. Price didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight while throwing only 93 pitches.

“Every pitch, fastball, breaking balls, had so much life,” Raburn said about Price. “And it was almost never in the middle of the plate. Just about everything on the corners.”

The Indians also hit into four double plays.

“Tonight, was very special, absolutely, with the defensive plays I was able to get, from (shortstop Jose) Iglesias, obviously, and (second baseman) Ian Kinsler. Everybody did their part tonight, and it’s fantastic,” Price said. “To get eight outs on four pitches, that’s always huge, and that’s always a game-changer.”

Danny Salazar (6-2) matched Price until the sixth. He allowed the three runs and seven hits while walking one and striking out six. He was replaced by C.C. Lee to begin the eighth.

Davis was thrown out at the plate in the first inning to complete an inning-ending double play. With Davis on second and Cabrera at first with one out and Yoenis Cespedes batting, Davis took off for third. Cespedes hit a weak grounder between the mound and the first base line that Salazar fielded and threw Cespedes out at first. Davis continued around third and tried to score but first baseman Carlos Santana threw Davis out at the plate as catcher Yan Gomes made the tag.

The Indians got consecutive one-out singles from Mike Aviles and Jason Kipnis in the third but Santana grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Cleveland third baseman Giovanny Urshela hit into an inning-ending double play in the fifth and Santana did so again in the sixth.

Tigers catcher James McCann tripled with one out in the seventh but was stranded when Iglesias grounded out and Gose struck out.
