The Mount Gilead swim team faced Marion Harding, Marion Elgin and River Valley Wednesday night at the Marion YMCA.
MG won the combined meet with 155 points — 38 more than second place River Valley. The boys finished first with 106 points, while the girls’ team was second with 49.
“Mount Gilead had a great meet. We have a good number of new swimmers, and they are improving quickly. We are ramping up our yardage at this time in the season, so it is hard for the swimmers to drop time. Nevertheless, we still had some excellent swims and personal bests,” said coach Dina Snow. “We are happy just to be able to practice and compete during this time of Covid restriction, so even if we don’t see a lot of variety in our meets and competition, we are taking it in stride.”
Swimmers earning first place finishes in individual events included Joel Conrad, 200 IM and 500 Free. Joel also set new school records in both events. Also taking first were: Michael Snopik: 50 and 100 free; Taylor Robinson, 200 free; Emily Hanft, 50 and 100 free; Eric Mowery, 100 back; Mason Kidwell, 100 fly and Luke Fraizer, 100 breast.
Second place finishes went to: Tyler Knight, 200 IM and 50 free; Eric Mowery, 100 free; Adriana Tinch, 100 back; Michaela McGill, 100 breast and Cole Hershner, 100 breast.
The relays also did well. Eric Mowery, Tyler Knight, Joel Conrad and Michael Snopik came in first in the 200 Medley relay, while Hayden McClelland, Luke Fraizer, Mason Kidwell and Seamus Walsh came in second.
Tyler Knight, Mason Kidwell, Cole Hershner and Luke Fraizer won the 200 free relay, while Joel Conrad, Eric Mowery, Mason Kidwell and Michael Snopik won the 400 free relay.
Emily Hanft, Michaela McGill, Adriana Tinch and Kamry Grandstaff scored 2nd place in the 200 medley relay, while Adriana Tinch, Taylor Robinson, Kamry Grandstaff and Michaela McGill were 2nd in the 200 free relay.
Ella Frazier dropped three seconds in her 50 free and completed the 100 breaststroke for the first time. Cole Hershner dropped five seconds in the 100 free, and Kamry Grandstaff dropped seven seconds in her 100 breaststroke. The team will be back at the Marion Y on Jan. 13.
