The Highland boys picked up their first two wins of the season last week.

The team closed out 2020 with a 49-44 win against visiting Utica. Highland led 10-8 after the first quarter and increased that margin to a 22-17 score at the half and a 35-24 lead after three. While Utica took a 20-14 advantage in the fourth, they could not erase the Scot lead.

Gavin Hankins finished with 16 points, while Jordan Bellamy tallied 14 and Brock Church finished with eight.

On Saturday, the team opened 2020 with a come-from-behind 53-42 win at home over Delaware Christian.

The Scots trailed 14-4 after the first quarter, but battled back to take a 26-25 lead at the intermission. Both teams scored 13 in the third, but Highland finished the game strongly, holding a 14-4 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Bellamy had a big game for the team, as he had 24 points on the night. Rider Minnick finished with nine.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington split two games last week.

On Wednesday, the team improved to 7-2 at the expense of Northridge in a 56-43 decision.

A big third quarter was key to the win. After the score was tied at 12 after one quarter and at 27 at the half, the Pirates held a 19-6 advantage in the third to jump in front. Both teams had 10 points in the fourth to preserve the win for Cardington.

The team fell to Newark Catholic on Saturday by a 53-44 score. After a low-scoring first quarter, the Green Wave jumped out to a 31-22 lead at the half. They still led by a 37-33 count going into the fourth before finishing on top by nine in the game.

Mount Gilead Indians

Ridgemont pulled away in the second half to defeat host Mount Gilead by a 75-60 margin on Wednesday.

The score was tied at 22 after the first quarter and MG had surged in front by a 44-38 margin at halftime; however, their opponents would take a 19-9 advantage in the third to move in front by four. They would add to their lead throughout the fourth quarter in claiming the decision.

Jackson Huffer scored 16 to lead Mount Gilead, while Matthew Bland hit four three-pointers in scoring 16. Also, Elijah Chafin scored 13 and Paul Butterman added 10.

Northmor Golden Knights

Northmor was edged by North Union in a Saturday night game by a 48-39 margin.

The Golden Knights trailed 12-9 after the first quarter and watched their opponents increase their lead to a 29-21 margin going into the half. Both teams played evenly in the second half, with the Wildcats holding a slim 19-18 advantage on the scoreboard.

Preston Harbolt led Northmor with 13 points. Graesin Cass scored nine and Kooper Keen had eight.
