The Cardington girls’ basketball team overcame a slow start to pick up a 56-33 win over visiting Ridgedale Wednesday night.

The locals trailed 12-11 after the opening quarter of action, but had a strong second period to surge in front by a 30-16 score at the half. They increased their lead to a 44-20 score by the end of the third quarter and were able to maintain a big lead throughout the final eight minutes.

Beth Hardwick hit four three-pointers in leading the team with 17 points, while Dana Bertke tallied 16 for the 8-0 Pirates.
