The Cardington girls got out to a strong start at Centerburg on Saturday and wound up with a 51-37 victory.

The Pirates jumped in front by a 24-9 margin after the first quarter of play. While their opponents took the second period by an 11-10 tally and also held a 12-8 edge in the third, Cardington still led 42-32 going into the fourth. Over those final eight minutes, they held the Trojans to five points in preserving the win.

Beth Hardwick led Cardington with 14 points, while Mikayla Linkous finished with 10.

Northmor Golden Knights

Northmor lost to Fredericktown on Saturday by a 50-35 margin.

The Freddies took an 11-5 lead after eight minutes of play and outscored the Golden Knights by a 25-16 margin over the middle two periods to increase their lead to a 36-21 count. Both teams finished with 14 in the fourth, as Northmor suffered the league loss.

Lexi Wenger’s 12 points led Northmor.

Mount Gilead Indians

East Knox edged Mount Gilead’s girls’ team on Saturday by a 39-38 count.

Both teams scored 12 in the first quarter, but East Knox surged in front by a 23-20 margin by the half. The Bulldogs increased their lead to 31-26 by the end of the third. While the Indians battled back in the fourth quarter, they finished one point short of their opponents.
